The story

What is Pustakari?

A sweet the Kathmandu Valley perfected over generations — now travelling further than ever.

Pustakari (known in Nepal Bhasa as postikan) is a traditional Nepali candy refined by Newar confectioners in the Kathmandu Valley. It’s made by cooking khuwa — milk reduced to soft solids — with jaggery or sugar, pure ghee, nuts and a hint of cardamom, then setting it into a dense, chewy, fudge-like sweet.

Unlike soft milk sweets that spoil in days, Pustakari is cooked hard and low in moisture. That’s why, for generations, it has been the souvenir sweet — the thing you carry home from a journey, gift at a wedding, or send to someone you miss. It keeps. It travels. It remembers.

At Meethay, we make it the honest way — small batches, real ingredients, no artificial colours or preservatives — and we bring it to you fresh in India and Nepal. Same recipe, same soul, two kitchens.
